Firstly I should point out
that I am in no way affiliated with the current owner of the Baragoola
(David Ashton) or with any historical society. Therefore any opinions
entered here are my own and not representative of any other individual
or organisation.
Mr Ashton should be commended on the fact that he's held on to the
Baragoola for so long and has invested a significant sum of money in
her (one report claims close to a million dollars). Without a doubt
this has saved her from following so many of her sister vessels to a
watery grave or the breaker's blow torch.
But one man can only do so much and I believe that it is time for the
NSW government & other organisations to step in and give him a hand
in saving what is probably one of the most significant vessels on
Sydney Harbour.
Hence this site - it's a blatant appeal to those that love Sydney's
maritime heritage to show their support, make a difference & help
to save this old ferry.
I've had a personal interest in our ferries for a long time, one of my
earliest memories is as a very young child being taken to Manly by my
grandmother, I was way too young at the time to know what ferry I was
actually on!
As far as possible I've acknowledged copyright on the photos available
on the site, however if you believe that a particular image may be
yours, drop me a line (via the contact page) & I'll remove the
offending image.
If the South Steyne (and to a lesser extent the North Head) could be
saved, there's no reason why the Baragoola can't be as well. Join with
me and help make a difference.
Please note that the Google ads on the site help finance my costs
involved with maintaining this site.
